I'd chose ucla but neither are ideal. Uva is stronger at undergrad liberal art fields than both imo

Assuming one of those liberal arts majors isn’t impacted, the student should see how strong that particular department rates.

Expensive for OOS, just like Michigan. I don’t know if it’s worth paying all that over in-state UVA or UMD, but I can definitely see the allure for students if cost isn’t an issue.

UCLA is going to be more "California" and fun. Both are fantastic schools that are very hard to gain admission either in State or out of state.
