Your kid can take it over the summer with Sidwell - in DC they just posted their summer schedule and it includes a "for credit" option (your school must pre-approve it)

6 wks in person $1800

The listing for it is at the bottom of this page, after Algebra etc

As a parent whose child was successful in BC Calculus sophomore year (earned 5s on AB and BC sections of AP exam) I will give of the longer perspective for college.

My son did multi variable and linear calculus Junior year. He had to transfer to a local private for this option. He then did AP Statistics his senior year.

With AP credits, he placed out of math courses including the calculus prerequisite for some courses he took freshman year. He placed into a mid level Economics class (again because of AP credits). He discovered, he forgot a lot of the calculus skills he once had because it had been 3 years since he took calculus. He had to quickly review calculus while trying to learn economics. Everything worked out in the end but it was a stressful discovery for him in the moment.

It’s ok to slow it down unless your child wants to study math theory in college because calculus is worth doing as a upper classman in high school so the concepts are fresh for applications in college courses.

OP- My kid is in a magnet and some of the brightest kids do that. Pre-Cal is a review of Algebra 2 and an intro to Calculus. If your kid is getting like perfects on the math SAT now go for it. Otherwise, I agree with PPs wait till junior year.

That is a good suggestion! Thank you.

Take AP STATS and Precalc both in 10th, calculus in 11th.

Why is since he would like to take AP stats in Senior. We are trying for a path to reach this. Any other recommendations to get to this path?

Even if he wants to be a math professor, there is no reason to do this. And even then, it’s be better to actually learn the material over a year.

I agree with why and are you sure? Most kids have problems finding one good post calculus class and yours would have to find two.

Why do they want to? It's kicking my junior's butt right now, and we suspect that's partly because last year's virtual pre-calc was truncated a bit. It's hard to imagine being able to gain mastery of the material over the summer.

Last summer they offered Honors Precalculus during summer school.

Honors precalc is a challenging course. No way would I recommend cramming it in over the summer, especially to try to take BC Calculus as a 10th grader. 11th grade is plenty early for BC Calc.

DC would like to take AP Calc BC in sophomore year. The pre-requisite for this is Honors Pre Calc. Can this be done in summer? We are in a W school.
