I think its fine to announce where they're going when that is finalized. I have one friend who posted about her kid's various acceptances/rejections - don't do that. And don't announce any kind of financial aid.

Do as my SIL does and include all details of acceptance and any senior awards in the annual Christmas card. Make it almost like a CV.

Yes, totally fair and appropriate to post where your kid is going to college. Facebook is wonderful for family updates.

For merit aid, only if it's based on some honor award. Regular ol' $X dollars received would be tacky as hell.

Yes for a single celebratory post when kid has decided where they will be attending. No to mention of merit aid and no to posting for every acceptance. I enjoy seeing where the kids are heading in May.

I’ll take the opposite view and say it could be a nice way to share good news with far-flung friends and family. One idea: wait until May 1 when everyone knows where they are going. I enjoyed catching up with friends who posted about their college-bound kids last year on decision day.

Just curious on thoughts. Do you think it's OK to post on FB where your kid is off to? And if so, is it completely tacky to mention merit? Like can I mention kid is a "Provost Scholar" (or whatever) - and yes, it makes them sound way smarter than they actually are. I think a simple "my kid is going here," with pic of kid in college sweatshirt, is sufficient.
