IED is the first course in the Project Lead The away (PLTW) engineering program. It’s got some serious tech stuff happening. If you kid isn’t into tech, take Foundations of Technology. It’s really an overview and exploration of different areas of technology. Lots of hands on projects. Easy class for a student who stays on top of work.

First here - I don’t think our school has that program and it was a new class for us this year. I just double checked and ours is Foundations of Engineering and Technology and the following year you can take Advanced Design Applications. So disregard if you’re in a different program.

I think there was a change a few years back and only certain schools offer PTLW classes now. PTLW stopped allowing schools to just offer 1 or 2 classes. It was all or nothing. Most schools went with nothing due to the cost but offer a similar thing.

My DD has really enjoyed the Intro to Engineering class. They use computer programs to design stuff. Some hand drawing, too.
