I’ll miss watching him too. He’s a really exciting young player, and has always been so generous with his time with fans after games.

I’m a bit concerned about Wolfsburg being a great destination for him though. Several other young Americans have gone there in recent years, including locals Michael Edwards and Bryang Kayo, and former YNT star Uly Llanez. They were loaned out to second or third division teams shortly after arrival. It doesn’t seem like a development club. Hopefully this case is different and he’s getting a nice payday.

That was totally sarcastic. I could not agree more that this is a tremendous accomplishment and opportunity. I was making fun of the view that his ULittle coach and club had a bigger impact than, say, him or his family, by suggesting sarcastically that they could have done a better job.

+1. Easily one of my favorite players on the DCU roster. Excited to see what his future holds.

This is a question of mine. I have a young boy (under-13) who is a great player at a great club but his birth year has an unusual number of fantastic players, many of whom play up 1-2 years. I wondered (all things considering they stay mostly at their same tier) how there is room for opportunities when so many of the players are "elite" players.

The quality and depth of the US Youth Player Pool is taking off. Paredes is a strong player but I don't think has been considered as near the top of his age group in US Youth Soccer. Like I don't see any Youth National Team experience in his bios. Now Wolfsburg coming in with a rumored $8MM - $9MM transfer offer. We just have never seen anything like this in the past outside what were considered the very top few players in an age group and some years not even them.

Wikipedia says he is from South Riding so maybe Loudoun or somewhere else near there?


Says he joined DC United in 2016 which would be when he was 12 or 13. Maybe finally a DCU development success story!

Probably the most credit should go to Kevin and his 2 older brothers, in terms of his ability. He played a few different places before DCU Academy, with Bethesda South being the one prior to DC...but he was already exceptional when he showed up there.

Yep. Somebody wants to take credit for a career that a kid built with his family. This kind of crap never ceases to amaze. What rec coach did he have when he played up as a five-year-old?

Local had sniff from City but apparently now headed to Wolfsburg. Know he was with DC United mostly. Where did he play before United?
