My 15 yo DD's oldest friends, who she has known since she was in preschool, call me by my first name, as do the friends she subsequently made. It's be really strange for me to insist that new friends, or a new GF, use Mr. X.

That said, for some reason I would prefer to be called Mr. X by a GF, but I really can't see how to make that happen.

Mrs. X, just as new friends of both my kids refer to me. There are a few friends of the kids who call me Larla, but we've known each other since the kids were 4-5 years old, and our kids and family have been friends for a decade or so.

I've told teens they can call me Ms. J. But the default seems to be Ms. Larla.

I actually wonder how this works with friends period these days. we live overseas and my last name is complicated to pronounce and different than my child's name. Am I supposed to go by Mrs. X? I just prefer my first name amoung her European and American classmates.

When you met your teen’s GF/BF, how did you introduce yourself? Mr./Mrs. X or First Name. At the teen stage, I’m not sure if they should be calling me by my first name or sticking with Mr./Mrs. X. I always introduce myself as Mrs. X to younger siblings friends and refer to other kids’ parents as Mr./Mrs. X.
