We’re at an APS elementary school and just got an email today from the gifted resource teacher at the school indicating that our child’s score automatically imitated them for referral for gifted services.

What were the scores?

They aren't invalid. But it's possible that this cohort will score lower than pre-2020 cohorts. Nationwide, in 2020 psychologists were noticing anecdotally that IQ scores were lower than previous years. Variously the difference was ascribed to plexiglass, masks, and other social distancing requirements. Stress and social isolation were not mentioned.

It's not just your school but your output at school which is why some kids receive services before they even take the test.

Does APS ever report district level scores? If so where? I'm curious how students have scored in the past (obviously not talking about individual students, but overall what the range of scores were etc.).

Not in APS but ACPS. Guidance counselor told us that the cut off was 96th or 97th percentile depending upon how the kids in the entire school district performed. The percentiles are based on national ones but an individual school district may have a different mean composite.

Why wouldn’t they be?

This isn’t a test covering content. It’s supposed to capture ability.

I should have been clear asking about APS.

I believe it is 120 but I don't remember where I saw or heard that and can't find reference to it on the website.

Thanks. I looked on the APS websites but could not find the info. And I don’t remember from when my older kid was that age (plus, I think they look the tests in different grades then).

I've heard this as well but don't know if it's correct. It seems low?

I wonder this, too. And is it based on the actual score, or percentile?
