I vaguely remember this story as well.

I read the story and felt so sorry for the woman. I totally understand the value of companionship, and the fear of losing it. I have a MIL who was widowed and remarried. She gives me as much as she can every time we visit - china, jewelry. My MIL is not wealthy like this woman, but she has a fear of new husband's family taking it. I suspect there are alot of older people out there getting scammed, it's so sad assuming this guy is guilty that he stole from her and her friends.

That’s so sad that she suspected he was doing this but was afraid to be alone. I guess in this case money really did buy companionship during her lifetime. Also saw she’s a Madeira alum.

Or at least not to just leave $50K worth of them just lying around in one of your mansion bathrooms (per the article)!!!

It’s the principal for me. He was a grifting thief. Still is, apparently.

So crazy.

But in some way I kind of identify with the people that are just leaving $50k of jewelry in their bathroom drawer at night.

I just read this. It sounds like an Agatha Christie novel! I hope he gets thrown in jail as quickly as possible - what a rotten person.

My SIL is a lawyer, as soon as her dad died she evicted his girl friend, changed the locks, packed up his house, sold what was worth selling, took his car to a deal to be sold.

You have to move fast to keep the leeches from leeching.

Wild story. Georgetown socialite Jacqueline Quillen died in October 2020 at the age of 78. Her son is now suing her partner, Lawrence Gray, stole jewelry and household items from her (and others) and is also continuing to occupy her house even though he has no ownership of it.
