I've experienced and witnessed some of the examples mentioned here from DD's "coach". Pathetic.

It depends on the age. For Ulittles, anything belittling or degrading or blaming an outcome on an individual. As they get older, I think anything related to the sport itself is fair game (I'd have no problem with a college coach yelling at a player about a play for instance)

I think the threads on abuse would be more informative if I had a clearer understanding what constitutes verbal abuse. Rule of thumb, if it’s the behavior or action that is being criticized, even if delivered harshly, i wouldn’t consider that abuse. If the person themselves is being criticized (e.g., you missed that or you lost because you’re lazy, a failure, etc.), that is abuse I’d keep my kids away from. Of course the former, when it becomes berating, can also rise to the level of abusive.
