Dr. Wiener fan here too... the very best. I remember one time my In Laws came with me for my son's checkup since I wasn't able to drive yet. They were so clearly driving me nuts and he could see I was exhausted. He told them to go put the baby in the car and wait there and that he needed to "run a lab" and review it with me and I'd be out in a bit. Then he told me to just stay in the exam room with the lights out and chill for 15 minutes. I think he saved my sanity that day.

Bethesda is a wealthy area and there are enough people willing to pay for a convenient nearby pediatrician.

Most pediatric groups in this area don't take insurance, because they don't have to... people will still go there and pay the extra cost. I work for an insurance company and took my kids to Pediatric Care Center for years, because they were kind, consistent, and always had time for us. It was worth the extra steps to pay up front, file with insurance and absorb the difference. When my kids got older (10+) I moved to a practice that takes our insurance, and we never see the same practitioner and have no "rapport" with any doctors. That's OK because they now only go once a year for a physical. When they were little, knowing I would see Dr. Weiner every time, and he knew and remembered my kids, was worth it.

It's becoming more common with all doctors. They don't want to deal with the low reimbursement and extra admin of filing with the insurance companies. Have you tried Bethesda Pediatrics on Seven Locks? Metropolitan Pediatrics near the old White Flint?

Reimbursement rates are very low especially for pediatrics.

We recently moved to Bethesda and are looking for a new pediatrician. We've contacted a number of pediatrician in Bethesda, however most of them do not take any more new patient. Pediatric Care Center which is very close to us, told me that they don't take any insurance so we expect to pay each time and we should connect with insurance for reimbursement. I've never heard such a thing. Is it normal that pediatrician doesn't take insurance in this area?
