I especially like the injera. I like the spices in the lentil and other veggie dishes as well as kitfo.

+1 to Dukem. This is where my Ethiopian friend takes me. Yummy! I like to get the veggie combo and the beef tibs. I like doro wot too.

OP, if you haven't had it before, it tends to take awhile to come to the table (so don't go with children who are ravenous to start with and expect food immediately).

Also, it is served on a thin pancake-like bread and eaten with the hands, using torn-off pieces of pancake/bread. So you might want to take hand sanitizer? I know COVID isn't spread that way, but other things are.

Chercher in Bethesda is great. If you want the experience of dining in, I'd go to the litte Ethiopia area near U Street.
Dukem used to have music performances on Saturdays, though I'm not sure if they do now.
We used to love Habesha Market but it is very no-frills so wouldn't be my choice for a birthday dinner.

We always get Ethiopian from Chercher Bethesda. Assuming it's the same owners as the one in DC I'd say go for it -- best Ethiopian we've had in the MoCo burbs.

It isn't fancy, but my favorite place is Dama in Arlington (near Air Force memorial on Columbia Pike). That said, for a birthday celebration I'd agree with the recs above.

My darling daughter is turning 10 next weekend and would like to try Ethiopian food for her birthday. A friend raves about Chercher near the convention center in DC. I have also heard Zenebach is good. Any other good options we should investigate? We have never been to an Ethiopian restaurant before. We live in Arlington but I'm fine driving elsewhere.
