It's kind of a crapshoot. My dad had a 6'5" father, 4'11" mother and all the kids are short but normal-short. My parents are short dad, tallish mom and I'm on the tall side but sibling is very tall (6'3").

My mother is 5 foot nothing. My dad is 5’8”. My sister is 5’10”. She’s definitely both of their child. It’s so weird. People are always like, where did the talk genes come from? I am 5’3”. It’s so interesting!

NP. I find genetics and inherited traits like heights very interesting!

I especially enjoy seeing chart exceptions like my BIL who went from average height (under 6 feet) all through HS to a 6’5” 20-something. My own brother had a similar dramatic later growth to 6’3” spurt but more remarkable as our parents were 5’3” /mom and 5’9”/ dad.

Some kids stay there. My son is 6-5 and was never on a growth chart (always 99+). However his dad and I are both genuinely tall.

My boys were 90+% for height from birth onward. 17yo is now 6'3" -- but he's only grown an inch or so since he was 14yo. Meanwhile his brother just turned 13yo and is "only" 5'5" - a full 6" shorter than his brother was at the same age. Maybe #2 will be shorter, or maybe his growth spurt will take place over a longer period of time than the older one. Nothing to do but wait and see.

So on the chart you just folow your child's percentile now up to age 18 and see where it ends up?

Op here - when do growth curves level out for boys? My girls are solidly in the 75% and have been since probably 2ish. But my son is over the 99th for height and weight and seems to keep on that curve. I assume is will level out at some point.

Google 2 to 20 growth chart boy or girl. Standard chart used by all docs.

Yep look at growth curve.

I have one kid who is much taller than formulas would predict and one a good bit shorter but the growth curves were pretty spot on from early on.

shorter and average men are super focused on how tall the kid is going to be especially when it’s a boy. 5-10 is average of course but a guy that height wishes he was taller and then if you’re walking around saying I should have been taller but I was a preemie? You have given it some thought.

Why do you need this guesstimate of your children's future height?

Your best bet in my experience with my kids is to look at where they fall on growth curve and follow it out to adult age. That ended up being pretty accurate for both my kids.

What is the old adage? Take girls height at 2 and double it and boys height at 2.5 and double it? Or it is really just based on parents height?

DH is 5’10” and I am 5’7” but have tall genes in our family. DH was very premie and feels like that impeded his growth. Our DS is 37” at 2 years old. Just wondering how tall he might be. Our girls were 35” at 2 years old but I am doubtful they will end up to be 5’8” as adults. DD1 is 48” at almost 7 and DD2 is 45” at 5.
