OP here with an update. Received a background check and transcript request…followed by an offer yesterday! State government job with 3 days/wk remote and 2 in office.

Very timely! My final interview was Jan. 12 and references were contacted during that time. 4 of them confirmed that they spoke to them.

These f*ckers also went ahead and sent me the benefits structure on Friday the 7th, leading up to final in-person. It'll be 2 weeks Wednesday, I'm pretty annoyed. But I've been very reluctant to send a check in email, knowing in the back of my mind I'm their second choice.

On top of all of that the recruiting firm called to give me a little pep talk before the final interview.

We just hired someone. References were called last Thursday. We had to get sign off from the boss, so the offer didn’t go out until yesterday.

A week after my references were contacted.

To keep myself from obsessively checking my phone for possible missed calls, I’m turning to DCUM.

What was your wait time before hearing from a prospective employer after the reference check?

Last Friday: phone interviews
Tuesday: all 3 of my references were contacted
And now I wait! It is a state job and our state is in the midst of sending employees back to remote, so it may be awhile.

I should add that, a few years ago, my references got called for a job. And a few weeks letter I got a form rejection letter…so I’m trying to stay zen and not assume a positive outcome!
