It says the have to obtain permission so it might depend on whether a school has the form signed as part of registration?

also keep in mind that a covid vax is not a requirement so I wonder if the policy right now is to assume unvaccinated until a parent/guardian proves otherwise. It’s just easier to do that at a time like this when school nurses and staff are so busy and are juggling so many things.

That's great! Do we know if any of our school systems are using this to verify vaccination status? I was told we should upload the vaccination card to a central website, but also to email the cards to the school nurse. We haven't had a close contact since vaccination (knock on wood), so I was wondering how this would all work.

That’s a good thing that school nurses can access vaccination records. There are a lot of vaccines that are required for schools.

Heads up, I learned that the state of Virginia has made covid vaccine records available to schools:

Schools with a licensed health care professional can gain access to VIIS. Qualified individuals have the option to:
Look-up immunization records
Print Immunization records for students
A Registered Nurse can sign the immunization record per 12VAC5-110-10. A Licensed Practical Nurse cannot sign the record, but would return the form to the health department or providing physician to be signed or stamped by a physician or his designee, registered nurse, or health department official
Input student immunizations into VIIS (optional)
Schools which receive public funding are covered by the Family Educational Rights Act (FERPA). Schools covered by FERPA must obtain parental consent to update information in VIIS. Read below to learn more about FERPA.
