More likely a BANANA - build absolutely nothing anywhere near anyone.

OP here. I live in Maryland. As long as people own and use smartphones, data centers will continue to be built. Your photos of cats and Instagram likes have to be stored somewhere. (Also the archive of DCUM). So perhaps I am agnostic.

We are now protecting land next to protected land. When does it end? At the land next to the land next to the protected land?

OMG. We can’t “protect” every parcel of land deemed historically important. This is why we have national/state parks and historic sites to begin with.
Also, we’re not talking about developing land for tattoo parlors and strip clubs. Data centers play a crucial role in our growing digital economy.
Finally, Burns only comes off as a smug self-centered elitist jack***. Who cares what Ken Burns thinks?

It seems like Ken Burns has never been to the Manassas battlefield if he thinks a data center would ruin it.

Unfortunately, much of the area near the battlefield looks like rancid sh*t already. Data centers may be the least offensive development around there.

“near the battlefield site”
So, what’s the issue? If it’s not ON the battlefield, which is enormous btw, then I can’t see a problem.
Why is it being “near” the battlefield a problem?
Is it a visual thing? Because the battlefield today looks nothing like it did in 1862. Forests have grown up in many parts of it, roads cross cross it, vehicles drive through it on those roads, planes fly over it … what makes all that ok but having a server farm building within eyesight of it a problem?
I’m not understanding the problem here.
