+1 Durham. It still snows every once in a while, but it’s warmer. The summers are worse than here though.

All of the people (from DCUM land) I know who were looking for this ended up in the Research Triangle or Atlanta. Not exciting, but I think all of them were ultimately happy about the move.

OP, I get your thinking, but you’re going to need to accept purple-ish or red voters — who send their kids to the local privates, compounding subpar public school systems - or high prices.

Maybe some parts of the Richmond, VA area? Not in the city itself but close by - further out you get, the more conservative it gets though but I think some sides may be more liberal than others?

My friend just moved to St. Pete and I visited him there. Cheaper than DMV and purple/liberal (he's gay, for instance). No idea about the schools though.

Feeling the need to branch out from DC and find somewhere warmer and with a lower COL and better quality of life. Would love to be near the water. Every idea I have turns out to be very trumpy, and we're too liberal for that. Where would you suggest?!
