CDC has simplified the language on their quarantine page so it’s less obvious but it says fully vaccinated people don’t need to quarantine. Then elsewhere it says that 5-17 year olds only need 2 doses to be considered fully vaccinated. While this is true for the time being, I do expect to change, maybe even by fall.

They were saying 6 months from the second dose or booster from what I recall on the late Dec/Early Jan updates but they just posted a new chart that says under 18 doesn’t need to quarantine if they received primary doses. Here is where it’s posted:

I was actually glad they made a chart because there’s been a few different policy changes and it’s hard to keep track of.

Thanks. I agree it’s impossible to keep up! Have you seen where CDC says that particular group doesn’t need to quarantine?

Not really sure about the CDC. I work for LCPS with that general age group. So far in my experience they have been following the policies they put out and there are asymptomatic kids who have not tested positive but have someone in their home who tested positive for example but not required to pause. Even before when it was getting vaccinated in the last six months it seems like most kids in this age group got vaccinated in the last six months anyway. Many parts of the county have very high vaccination rates in this age group. I would say in athletics there have been wider spread pauses for multiple cases. But from what I understood, that was more of administrative thing where the contact tracing office (? or set of employees) couldn’t prioritize athletics with the omicron surge so they had to to temporarily pause teams until they could get to them.

It’s about to get a whole lot worse if kids are unmasked. All of a sudden a lot more close contacts.

CDC carved 5-17 year olds out of the booster requirement. Per the CDC this age group only needs the primary vaccine sequence.

At the school board meeting last night Ziegler said starting this coming Monday, no. 17 and under only need the primary vaccines. I went ahead and boostered anyway, but that’s your answer. They said at the meeting that any changes will be announced mid week and effective the following Monday, since the CDC keeps changing.

Do they have to be boosted? FCPS says no. Ad right after the Superintendents email the CDC also clarified that under 18 don’t need boosters to be exempt from quarantine.

I would prefer to wait to booster my teen - does anyone know the answer?
