NCRC was having all the kids test over the weekend and submit a negative PCR by Sunday evening, but now they’re doing testing at school for all of the faculty, staff and students every Monday or Tuesday

I would love if the co-op preschool my child attends administered weekly PCR tests! If the school would be requiring parents to seek out weekly PCR tests on their own in order for the child to attend, I think that would be much (MUCH!) too big of an ask. I would be okay if the school required me to obtain and administer a weekly at home antigen test... again a large ask for parents who are already stretched thin, but assuming the tests will become easier to obtain / obtain for free soon, I think I would be okay with that. I would prefer a platform to upload the results/photo instead of an honor system.

Why wouldn’t private preschools screen for covid? Is it the cost or not wanting to subject kids to the swab??

I believe CHOW (children’s house in Georgetown) is doing weekly screening in school. Georgetown Montessori randomly selects a few kids weekly and asks their parents to test at home. Little folks tests. Does anyone know about Metropolitan. , St John’s or Ncrc?

We are very thankful for this program. Costs for the testing program are run through our personal medical insurance. SAECC management is doing an incredible job of running the testing program - I'm fully supportive and impressed. Parents are doing a good job too.

Don't rely on other's honesty. One dishonest family can shut down a few classrooms.


PS - SAECC does Wednesday tests. This seems to be good for catching those weekend cases.

It's awesome and has identified cases among both kids and faculty, stopping the spread within the school. This is interesting. I’m OP. If the child picked up the germ over the weekend, it won’t show up on a Monday test. I can’t figure out which day of the week is the best day to test if you’re doing weekly rapids.

My daycare does not do this, and I hope if you implement it, you provide the tests! We had to test to come back in January which I do think was a good idea but omg trying to find a test with a toddler and newborn in tow was a special kind of hell let me tell you. (And I’m in DC, so tests were available! Just not at times and places convenient to nap time/my toddler’s ability to walk there.)

If so, what is the policy? Rapid or PCR? Is it honor system? Do you take a picture of the test and email it in? We are considering this (co-op preschool and I’m on the board), and I’m interested in what your policy looks like. Thank you!
