Does anyone know if Dr. McKnight is working remotely? What about the Associate Superintendents and Directors?

No one was answering the phones in Central Office last week and there wasn’t even a voicemail system to leave a message.

I agree, leadership starts by the example that those at the top demonstrate. Wear a MCPS N95 and get to work.

Data shows that VL negatively impacted kids. Many teachers struggled with VL themselves. Other states and countries are still doing in person school.

Teaching and children learning is not the same as adults working remotely. There are some jobs that cannot be done remotely. Your grocery store workers are still going into work so that you can get your groceries and don't starve.

IMO, teachers are essential for education for K-12. It's different if the students are adults.

I have to disagree. I've taken many online classes that were very helpful. I don't even feel there's any advantage to in-person aside from the daycare angle.

Teaching can absolutely be done remotely, but that's not the issue right now, since the majority of teachers actually prefer to teach in person. We need to allow any student or teacher who wishes, to stay home right now, without penalty. For the next few weeks, just while the Omicron surge is ongoing. Students have excused absences already, but most families don't know this. MCPS needs to announce it, and assure students their grades won't go down for missed work.

I don’t think it’s silly. I think it illustrates how out of touch the BOE is with the realities of teaching.

Just read a message from infuriated teachers that the BOE office is closed. Apparently they can’t safely work in their offices with the doors shut, but expect teachers to go in and be in contact with hundreds of students.
I called and verified for myself. What a sad mess this school leadership is.
