I'm an R, and I'm comfortable in North Arlington. I grew up in Bethesda, and I can hardly step foot in Maryland anymore. There are definitley more Ds than Rs here, but people aren't really in your face about it.

Plenty of nice republicans in Potomac.

What part of DC? We are very openminded (after all we've stayed married for many years voting different candidates most of the time). Maybe we are just unlucky with our specific neighborhood/area. Thanks for the input.

Eastern MoCo, particularly the upper / lower cost areas around Wheaton, Glenmont, Burtonsville. People just do their own thing.

Western MD and Eastern shore are outright Trumpy.

Maybe where you live is uniquely very political OP? I think most places - in Fairfax county at least - would fit this.

I'm in Burke. We talk politics with neighbors we are very close to but aside from general decrying of various Trump things, i can't think of anyone else i've talked politics with here much. It just isn't a common topics of conversation.

It it hard (and useless) to have a conversation about politics without disclosing your political position.

Any specific areas/counties? There are a lot of other things I really like about NoVa comparing to MoCo and VA vs MD in general.

Do you mean Potomac? We are in Bethesda. Also, what are the ex-urbs? (OP)

I am democrat, but my husband is on republican side. We both are very moderate and not crazy. Currently residing in southern MoCo which I call "politically stuffy" Is there an area within DMV where people are just nice to each other regardless of political affiliation? Just normal and down to earth humans. We are willing to travel a little out if we have to, since both of us work from home.
