Even if that’s what it is, young Elementary students get to socialize and interact with each other. I have been more concerned about the social interactions that my now 2nd grader was deprived of for 18 months. Kids learn through playing and at that age play and being around your classmates is very important.
They’re not going to be “playing.” They’re going to be doing busy work and work sheets and math/reading computer games on chrome books. I know you have not been inside a school due to the pandemic, but those of us who had kids do 2nd grade in the before times know that this is not preschool.
