I had to quit once and I was miserable. I was so happy when I could drink it again in moderation.

I get headaches for 1-2 weeks when I quit caffeinated beverages. Coffee, tea, sodas. I’ve quit many times but also love the taste and the ritual of coffee. So I’ll jump back in periodically and then cut it out completely (and yup-headaches, grogginess). It’s terrible. But I keep going back!

I've had no reason to give up coffee since then. I drink three cups of black coffee in the morning, another cup in the afternoon, one after dinner, maybe an espresso at some point. It doesn't keep me up or interrupt my sleep. It's basically all I drink besides water and an occasional cup of tea.

Oh my gosh, that’s a lot of coffee. Why not just ask your doctor for an Adderall script at that point?

I fill up a thermos in the morning and usually finish it (it's an old Stanley thermos, guessing it holds about 32 oz). Coffee tastes way better than a pill which tastes like nothing at all.

Same. I quit for GERD and was shocked at how much energy I had after the first week. But eventually I started adding it back in on weekends, then daily. Whereas I used to drink 4-6 cups a day now I do one small cup, 4-5 ounces.

I drink average of two cups per day-- I can cut back to one just fine (a little sleepy later in the day), but if I go cold turkey, I get a low grade headache.

Similar. I don’t have a foggy brain but I have a killer headache. I skip coffee exactly one day a year - fasting on Yom Kippur - and it’s a massive headache by 11ish.

Is substituting unsweetened hot tea, e.g. earl grey, for coffee cheating?

Everyone's diffent. I've cut back from 20oz to 5oz (4 coffee maker cups to 1) but had to do it slowly. Each time I reduced I got headaches and anxiety/depression for a few days.

I used to drink a large Americano daily, sometimes 2, and just kind of naturally stopped when the pandemic started and I was getting more sleep working from home. I didn't have any withdrawal symptoms, but I also attributed that to being someone who would have all coffee done by 9am. Maybe it woukd be different if I refueled throughout the day?

I drink 1-2 cups of coffee a day and don't have withdrawal symptoms if I stop. I don't think two cups a day is all that much. I've found it really helps to up the water intake to avoid any withdrawal symptoms.

I kicked a heavy diet coke habit a number of years and gave me HORRIBLE withdrawal headaches.

After being a daily drinker, often twice a day -- everything from good drip, pour-overs, Americanos, espesso macchiatos, to flat whites -- I've gone the past 7 or so days without any and I feel totally fine. No headache, no fatigue, no craving. I could probably do this all year. I guess I sort of miss the taste and its warm cozy essence so to speak. But really, no "craving" to go to a cafe or Starbucks or anything.

Is this abnormal?
