Yep, the Verizon tech came today and said that the router was only showing the 5GHZ not the 2.4 GHZ. He gave us a new router that had both going out. Not sure if I’m using the right terms for what the problem was but anyway it’s fixed now!

We just can’t understand why all those devices suddenly stopped working at the same time about three weeks ago. I mean they suddenly stopped being able to connect to the router. They work just fine if you hook up an ethernet cable.

Printer, TV, and thermostat are likely devices that support older standards, which is why I suspect that the 2.4GHz band (the older one) is the issue here. Laptops and telephones have supported 5GHz for a while.

As usual, I will point out that wireless is never perfect, so try to get network wiring installed for devices that never move (printer, TV, desktop computers, etc.), if reliability matters to you.

Or maybe your neighbor is now using the same channel? Check the user interface for the router and make sure that both bands are enabled. Precipitation can interfere with WiFi. Also other microwave sources such as.....a microwave. If you have a microwave on, it's likely your signal will degrade. Can you hire someone to run an ethernet cable through the wall/ceiling and put a wifi extender on the other side of your house?

Shoot, really?

I know I need to get on the phone and call someone at Verizon, but I don't have an hour to spare and I'm worried with my kids virtual and me teaching from home right now, I might screw up our connection.

We are having the same problem with xfinity. They said it was bc our router (which was recent and from them) was out of date. We switched it and zero improvement

I don’t know why this suddenly happened. Some of our wireless devices connected to our router, but other ones suddenly do not.

Laptops and cell phones can connect, But our wireless printer, and our TVs and WiFi thermostat do not now. And our router name doesn’t even come up in the list of networks to select. Has this ever happened to you?
