Printer, TV, and thermostat are likely devices that support older standards, which is why I suspect that the 2.4GHz band (the older one) is the issue here. Laptops and telephones have supported 5GHz for a while.
As usual, I will point out that wireless is never perfect, so try to get network wiring installed for devices that never move (printer, TV, desktop computers, etc.), if reliability matters to you.
