Made in USA is complex idea. A hell of a lot more goes into “making” a car than final assembly. That said, we have a relatively shackle-free market when compared to Japan, Germany, and Korea. Those nations are super-protective of outside manufacturers coming in and setting up shop. Much easier for Toyota to set up a factory in the US than it is for say, a German or US manufacturer to set up a plant in Japan.

Both of our Hondas were made in the USA - in Ohio and Alabama.

Head out into the rural areas of the country and people will literally fight over whether ford or chevy is better. My DH (who grew up in rural Virginia) recently met up with some of his high school friends. He pulled up in our little Toyota corolla that gets driven around the city occasionally and parked on the street. All his friends had massive American pick-up trucks.

Rental car companies buy huge quantities of American cars.

And, as PP noted, go to the midwest and you will see tons of American cars.

You're in the wrong area of the country for American cars. Go to the Midwest and Texas.

OP here.  There are plenty of space here in Langley and yet I am not seeing that many American made cars here.  I drive a Tesla Model 3, wife drives a Lexus LX470, my daughter drives Toyota RAV4; son drives a Lexus IS350.  One neighbor on the right drives a Tesla Model X, his wife drives BMW X5; his son drives BMW 335.  One neighbor on the left drives an Audi A8; his wife drives an Infiniti SUV; his son drives RAV4; his daughter drives Toyota Camry.

We know a lot of people who buy Tahoes, Suburbans and Jeeps.

People who are buying pickups.

People who drive under the speed limit are buying them.

OP the definition of "American made" is more complicated than you might be thinking.

You realize that many of the foreign-brand cars you list build cars in the US and some American-brand cars are built overseas?

I think many buyers of older American-brand cars are older, middle-class purchasers like my father.

I notice that none of my immediate family members, friends and colleagues are buying American cars anymore, with the exception of Tesla.  When I visit California and Miami Florida, I see foreign made cars like Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Volk, BMI, Lexus, Acura, Audi, etc... everywhere.  I also notice when I walk in my Langley neighborhood, almost everyone in the neighborhood drives foreign cars.
The other day when I came to the office, I noticed that 90% of the parking lot was filled with foreign made cars.  Wonder who is buying Ford, GM, and Chrysler these days?
