I'm flexing as much as I can. I might have to flex later in the week too. But otherwise I guess we burn leave. It definitely sucks, but that's just the tradeoff.

Good question. What did you do, OP? I worked before the kids woke up, during their nap, and then after they went to sleep. We're on maxiflex so we can put in our hours at any time of day.

I take the day off, switch off with my spouse, or work intermittently and do a crap job.

Today, I took off. I want to enjoy the snow day with my kid.

I keep up in emails to look like I am working but don’t do anything. I am not wasting precious leave on days where I didn’t choose to have the kids home.

Email traffic at my agency goes down by 90% on snow days so I am not the only one.

Once I didn’t have a baby, I pay a middle schooler to hang out with them and keep them alive for a few hours.

Some federal agencies have a policy that authorizes administrative leave if the weather event that forced telework also interfered with dependent-care arrangements at the alternate worksite (aka your home). You have to request it from your supervisor though.

Since we are all telework (or the majority of us are) our offices require us to continue working even though there is a federal snow day.
