The point is to reduce waste, not increase it.

Yes, DC has had this for years and seen only increases in number of plastic bags used year after year.

Doesn't reduce bag usage, but sure makes money for DC.

Just call it what it is: another money grab.

The store gets to keep 20% of the tax. It's also a handout to business.

But beer and wine in the supermarket! HOORAY! Makes VA superior. There are people who don't get to buy Trader Joe beer.

Not true at all.

According to the Anacostia Watershed Society, the amount of plastic bags found in trash traps along the river is down 75 percent since 2010 (the year the bag tax was implemented).

I pay the premium. I hate fooling around with a dozen or more bags during my weekly grocery trip.

Not Loudoun yet, but there is a vote soon that would take effect 7/1 if passed, which I expect it will given the makeup of the board.

Well that's interesting - VA is fully joining the DC world. Bag tax this week and Youngkin is eliminating the grocery tax on Day One in office on January 15th.

Somehow I missed that this was happening, and I was surprised when I went shopping this morning. I legit thought my local grocery store changed their policy because I was taking extra bags with my groceries. 🤣🤣
