Some ex's like my husband's ex are still collecting rent 20 years later and get it for the rest of their life. Its hard not to be annoyed when they cheated.

Been 9 months. I started dating someone new that was so much better but he didn't want to get serious and is moving away soon. So, now thinking about the ex again.

Me too. Hate it. She's also a former close friend.

An ex-friend, but yes. At this point she’s been up there so long I think I’d miss her if she left.

She broke up with me without that great an explanation, just saying she didn't think we were a great fit for long-term. Not much I can say to that but accept it and try (and so far fail) to move on. I did try to give new women a chance: I dated women in similar stages of life/career as I am, but it wasn't fair for me to always be comparing them to my ex. Now I sleep with women in their 20s, they get bored with me after a month or two and move on, I repeat the process with someone else and no one gets hurt. I probably only have 2-3 more years where I can do this easily, so hopefully I'm over buy ex by then.

My mom got divorced in 1972 and my dad is still living rent free in her head. She still fulminates about him. And oh yeah she still complains about her father even though she hasn't lived with him since 1957 and he died in 1988. If we tell her she needs therapy, she flies into a rage and starts attacking us. At this point we think sitting there being mad about past grievances is her hobby.

Every now and then he pops up, yes. But currently hot, married dad in our neighborhood is taking up all of my energy. Ughhhh
