It is a problem. My kids probably started watching The Office at 11 and there is plenty that’s questionable although it’s a great show.

The Crown is one that for the most part you could watch while your kids are in the room. I think the kdramas are pretty PG, loved Crash Landing on You. Documentaries are good, Real Sports, food shows.

Yes, there is so much sexual innuendo on shows that you probably wouldn’t even register until your kids are watching with you, and then it seems like that’s all they ever talk about. That said, we’ve watched The Office, Parks & Rec and The Good Place. I wouldn’t necessarily say I’m watching any of those for myself, they just happen to be the few shows that everyone can enjoy somewhat.

Lost in Space and His Dark Materials were also doable. I found Umbrella Academy too violent, but I know others are ok with it.

Bob’s Burgers is probably the one show that everyone in my family enthusiastically enjoys. I don’t know what we’re going to do when we get through all of those.

Amazing Race, American Ninja Warrior, Wheel of Fortune, sports, various singing/dancing competition shows, Shark Tank, Jeopardy, cooking shows, HGTV, Rick Steves and other travel shows, reruns of The Middle, maybe Wonder Years?

I also got into some veterinarian shows like Yorkshire Vet (some on Prime) and Critter Fixers (Disney Plus). There is some blood and medical stuff (and a lot of neutering and giving birth) so ymmv on how your kid feels about that.

Top Chef and other cooking/competition shows are great as long as you’re okay with some swearing that’s not bleeped out. Forged in Fire, the glassblowing one, etc have all been pretty popular in our house and everyone can watch them.

I really hate having the TV on as a background - my in laws do that and I find it super distracting.

That said, if you want your kid to build logos or whatever, there are a million shows that would be ok for that - maybe a comedy is more likely to be ok? I like Good Place, Morning Show, or episodes of Friends, Modern Family, etc.

If you want the 9 year old to watch, I enjoyed Umbrella Academy, Cobra Kai.

Op here. I know! I guess we're at a place in our lives/child's age where we're not necessarily DOING things together at all times, he doesn't need supervision, but he's not interested in hiding away in his room all evening. I was thinking back to my childhood and thought of all the sit-coms my parents watched while I was in the same room coloring, reading, playing with toys. I'd watch here and there. But all the shows I want to watch have too much adult content.

That said, I grew up with the TV always on, and so I still usually like to have something on.

Are there shows that you watch for yourself while your kids are in the room? I'm looking for shows that aren't kids shows, something I'd like, but that doesn't have sex and harsh violence so that my 9 year old can also be in the room.

I watched Sweet Tooth, which was perfect for this. Also the movie Yesterday. I need more ideas.
