If the child wasn’t in school and won’t be back until they’ve recovered - what exactly is your concern? Email this child’s teacher for what?

If its a well-run DCPS, then report -- I'm sure they have a process. If its a large school like Wilson, good luck getting the info to someone who would know what to do with it. They can't even get attendance right and their covid notifications are completely unhelpful.

You should but it is not required. If it effects attendance then you have to share it so the absences are excused.

I think we may see changes in test to stay rules, and there may be differences in testing policies for people who have recent cases. So, for that reason, I'd want them to know.

If the positive was 3 days after the last time the kid was in school, the school will do absolutely nothing with the info (nor will DC health). They have a strict 48 hour look back from a positive test rule.

She should tell them for a bunch of reasons, but one reason would be that if they are doing random testing, the kid may test positive for weeks/months and she wouldn't want her kid to be forced out of school.

Yes please tell administration. Even if they do contact tracing teachers and classmates are not being notified by the health department.

Contract tracing is the health department's responsibility. She could notify them, but she doesn't have to

My neighbor's kid-tested positive for covid. She goes to the same school as my kids, does she need to report the positive covid result to our school?
