It is considered income, whether you call it a bonus or gift. You can keep an annual bonus fixed if you raise her pay.

Prorate the yearly bonus (x) so give her 1/3x. This is standard practice.

I'd give a bit less than a week's pay since they started in August.

+1, one week is standard in my HCOL city. I did a little over one week for our nanny who started in September, plus about $200 in gifts for her and her daughter.

+1. A gift is a gift. Gifts aren’t expected to go up based on length of employment.

I’d give her a week since she’s only been here 4 months. After all, the hardest part is in the beginning learning a new baby and their schedule

I just hired a new person on October 1 and budget made me prorate their bonus. I’m not thrilled because 1/4 a bonus isn’t great.

Our nanny started at the end of August and we really like her, so want to be generous with her holiday bonus but don’t want to set an expectation that will leave her disappointed in the future.

We gave our previous nanny 1.5 weeks of pay in the past so we were trying to determine whether we should give our new nanny a full week, or if they she will expect 2 weeks in the future given that she worked with us for only 4 months. Should we do half of the 1.5 week bonus and hopefully she would expect around double the following year?

What would others do here?
