A guy with college-aged kids is not young. But your car should make sense for your lifestyle - when the kids were at home this didn't. Now it does. He's probably wanted one for a while and now it makes sense.

I’d rather have the 4 door (and I do, a rubicon), but there’s nothing inherently weird about this. Kids are gone, time for some fun. Doesn’t have to be a midlife crisis.

It's open air, without being a crappy little convertible. I turn 50 soon, and I'd love one, but our kids are in HS and we can't really justify it. There's no reason your DH shouldn't get one. If this is how he wants to manifest his midlife crisis, let him, and be thankful it's this mundane.

Its a very popular move for mid 40's guys (as a guy approaching 40 myself, have several friends that have one or similar). If no more kids in the house, why not do it? It isn't for me but they obviously have their appeal.

Sure, could be a mid-life crisis thing. Can you afford it? I would say let him have the car he wants. In the scheme of mid-life crises, this is pretty harmless.

As in, is this a mid-life crisis thing? We're in our mid 40s, our youngest will be going to college next fall, so we don't really need two SUVs anymore. However, isn't this a bit odd for a 40-something white collar dad? To me, it looks like something a college boy would drive.
