We’ve sent them a few years now and this year we are late. We’ve just been busy; took longer than expected to all sit down and get a good photo together, Shutterfly took forever to ship, etc etc. I really wouldn’t read too much into it. It definitely wasn’t intentional, it never occurred to me that anyone would be bothered.

I hope to mail some more tomorrow! I say "Happy Holidays and Best Wishes for the New Year" to buy some extra time! If it's postmarked before the end of the year, I call it a win! My kids have breen constantly home sick or quarantined this year so I will claim anything I can as a victory.

I also go to NY to see family most years and some cousins will be at Xmas with us and when I get back home to the DMV the card is there. Why mail it so late that you see me in person at Xmas before I get the card? I get folks are busy we all been there. But I had one person mail literally a card that is a Christmas card I get it after Xmas every year the last 30 years!! I usually have taken down cards by then so awkward.

One year my wife and I had a lot of things going on Illness, death of my mother and paired down list and did not mail the late people as we assumed only sending us a card since we sent one to them. Guess what they still came. Usually day after Xmas.

Why do they do it? Two are now literally empty nesters and retired. So they have time.




Christmas cards are for Christmas on December 25

If your birthday were on July 15, would you expect birthday cards on July 8?

Exactly. Christmas Day is actually the first day of the Christmas season and it runs for 12 more days. So the cards you get the day after Christmas are right on time.

Op, really you can't imagine? In my case it is called I have a million things thing in in my life. I ordered my cards in early november but took time to get stamps, get labels, address write etc. I really can't believe you don't get that people have life going on. Also I am pleased to get something out and don't worry about aged they arrive.

Well, this year I was supposed to spend almost four weeks before Christmas at my parents because one was scheduled for surgery so I shipped my cards directly to my mom’s house. The day after I shipped them, she got Covid and I didn’t come. My cards were in NY and I was in DC. She is fine and everyone tested negative, so I was reunited with my parents and my cards today. They will go in the mail tomorrow. Most, but not all, will arrive before Christmas. I am doing my best and I hope that people understand that and appreciate my card. I had the best of intentions.

Who cares why? All sorts of things could be going on in someone’s life. I’m happy to get a card from anyone no matter when it arrives.

How do you know it's not the postal service that is the cause of late mail delivery? Not the sender.

And why are you so rigid about Christmas letters arriving a few days after Christmas (gasp!) - does Christmas end on Dec. 26 for you?

When I did, it was because I hated doing it and I would order the cards for my spouse, he didn't do them and I wanted to get rid of them.

Working until Xmas Eve? Ordered personalized cards and delivery delayed? Spending weekends visiting Auntie in assisted living and shopping for her whims? I can think of so many reasons. But perhaps they shouldn't send you one at all if you are so particular.
