December isn’t typically cold. Snow is rare.

It gets cold in January and February.

Virginia weather is bi polar. It could be 70 one day, and snow the next.

+1. The real cold comes in January through February.

Weather is weather and climate is climate. But climate ultimately affects weather. Also more extremes in the winter due to less stability of the jet stream. When it dips down towards your region--cold. When it's far to the north--warm.

Minnesota just had the first recorded tornadoes in December. So not something that happens some years and other years not.

Long range forecast is for a colder winter with more snow due to La Nina. Haven't heard how December averages across the US are shaping up, but we will find out. Those are things people look at to get an idea of climate change impact.

When it is warm in the winter I enjoy it but certainly aware that it may not be a good thing entirely.

Just another of these variations that when observed over several years, add up to global warming. In a hundred years, you'll need to move way up to the North east to have the same climate as DC has now.

Human memory is remarkably shortsighted.

I well remember mild winters with December days in the high 40s into low 50s back in the 1980s. I remember a Christmas one year where I wore shorts. In Maryland. I remember very mild New Year's. Along with the cold ones, of course.

We had a few weeks of cold in late December, and it's mildlish cool right now, getting cold at night, which is typical for December.

The forecast does seem to be somewhat unreliable this year. Just a few days ago it was calling for close to 70 this weekend before dropping to the mid-low 40s all next week and Christmas Day was supposed to be 42! Then suddenly this weekend is 50 high instead and next week is closer high 40s into 50.

Who knows what it will be in a few days

50id the average high this time of year. Sometimes it’s 40 sometimes it’s 60. It’s normal.

It’s been 50s and 60s. Is this due to climate change?
