My husband would marry me all over if I filled his stocking with stews. A little Greek lamb stew, some Hungarian goulash, Irish stew . . . all in mason jars. He'd eat them before breakfast while the kids were sucking on their candy canes.

I had a delicious Greek lamb stew with tomatoes and carrots and onions and rice at Mykonos in Rockville last weekend. But I think it was a special so maybe call and see if they have it before you go. It was sooo good I went home and immediately started looking for Greek lamb stew recipes.

The Afghan Bistro has an excellent lentil soup, warm and hearty, with or without meat.

+1. I like the one at the Auld Shebeen in Fairfax City, but if there are other Irish spots closer to you they could be worth a try.

And don’t laugh, but I had beef stew from Costco that was really good recently. I was going through medical treatment, and my neighbor picked it up for our family and heated it up and made a batch of noodles to with it. It was delicious and totally passed as homemade. She ‘fessed up the next day that it was from Costco! I was ready to get a membership just to try that stew again

Where can I find a nice hearty warm stew in the DMV? Something they serve with great bread for dipping. Something salty, hot, and and unhealthy. I want something hearty that sticks to your bones on a nice cold day....although it has been warm recently.

No, I don't want to make a stew myself.
