A tan on a white person is going to be a bigger contrast than a tan on a dark skinned person. I would not mention it. I'm white and one time someone commented that I didn't tan after going to the beach (I used sunscreen.)

TBH, I know that's what all of my Indian and Asian friends do - desperately try not to tan I also try to protect my skin because apparently I'm at risk for skin cancer, which sucks.

Sometimes I come back from vacation, and only other Black people mention my tan. It just makes me chuckle.

I obviously don’t speak for all Black people, but you can mention it (to me). It’s OK.

This is something I noticed about white/Black people over the years. I notice white people frequently mention other white people’s tans, but they hesitate to mention those of Black people.

I just wonder if it’s a conscious thing. I actually wouldn’t mind someone (Black or white) mentioning my tan. I tan very easily, and I like it. It just seems like some white people actively avoid mentioning Black folks’ tans. I’m wondering if I’m off base in thinking this.

I don’t think I’ve ever commented on anyones tan…..

Let’s assume you’re white. If you notice a Black person got a nice tan after returning from a beach vacation, would you mention it? (“Oh! You got a nice tan. Looks great!”)

If not, would you mention it to a white person?
