Subject: Anyone else think schools will be virtual after Winter Break?
I hope they go virtual until this thing gets more under control. I doubt it though, Governor’s, the President or anyone like that have said anything yet. They could have made some travel restrictions, but haven’t even done that

What data are you looking at that's driving that concern? You think your school will go fully virtual again by January? Even for fully vaxxed kids? Oh no. 👀

Maybe. My kid's class in a HRCS had a breakthrough case in a fully vaccinated student today.

I think we need to stop this mantra. Honestly, PP, how many unvaccinated families and kids (eligible) do you think there are at your DC private? Zero to a handful, I'd bet.
Meanwhile, these same people will think nothing of traveling the globe during the winter break, as well they should. Stop with the blame on the "unvaccinated" as though they abound in NW DC.

My teacher daughter has four kids traveling out of the county over the break. Two to India, one to Africa. One to Costa Rica. I can’t help but feel annoyed.

That's a terrible approach. Why wouldn't you delay the return one day? Why risk everyone with gathering, when you could do it safely the very next day?

My school sent out a note that they are arranging whole school testing for the first week in Jan. I think that whatever day they pick, they're going to announce that we're virtual till those results are in (usually 24 hours), and then make a decision after. They haven't said that though.

Did you see the DC spike in cases? They’ve never had such a phenomenal rise in cases, ever. Hospitalizations will follow.

I think it's too early to tell how this new variant will play out. If we get tons of new infections, but barely a blip in vaccinated hospitalizations/deaths, then I think it will be masks/testing/same routine as the first half of this school year. If severe illness impacts vaccinated/boosted populations, then I think virtual is a definite possibility.
