White wine - try a Gewürztraminer. Get one made in Austria or Germany. Total Wine has them. Best white wine I’ve had.

Price range per bottle?

Kendall Jackson Chardonnay is really good for the price. Note, they had some problems with grapes in some recent vintages, and I’d say I get a “ugh” bottle once every four or five times.

Rombauer is a buttery Chardonnay that is between 2 and 3 times the cost of Kendall (depending on cost of each). Always exceptional.

Celli’s Cookies out of Williamsburg, sublime!

Barboursville has amazing wines but I think giving people a dessert wine like the Paxxito is really specific. Their Viognier and Cabernet Franc are excellent though.

For neighbors? You must be rich.

Not for just neighbors. For friends.

How much do you want to spend?

Hess has a selection of whites (chardonnay) and reds (Cabernet Sauvignons and mixes) ranging from $15-$50

Are you planning to pick up a few bottles at the grocery store, or are you near a wine store?

Is there a price range you wish to stay in?

"Classics" can have a broad interpretation, but I think Bordeaux (white and red) still offers a lot of value. Someone may not regularly drink wine from that region, but they will recognize it as a reputable wine region. {The grapes used are well-liked as well: Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot.

Sparkling wine is also a great choice this time of year. It pairs well with many foods, so it can feel festive beyond just NYE. A quality prosecco has a softer bubble, and it's a popular choice.

I wouldn't add food for the sake of adding food.

I like this - https://www.totalwine.com/wine/red-wine/cabernet-sauvignon/ferraricarano-cabernet-sauvignon/p/1149750

I think it is just a universal good red Cabernet at a pleasing mid-price point.

All my white wine takes are controversial butter bombs, but I love me a Sonoma cutrer Chardonnay #cougarjuice
