travel soccer has the fields on sunday mornings and rec on saturday--that's been the breakdown since I was a kid playing in the 70s. Might find an indoor or futsal on Sunday or an odd game here and there, but most rec is on Saturday.

I asked Burke Athletic Club and they play on Saturday mornings too.
BRYC as well.

Why everyone plays Saturday mornings???
No team Saturday afternoons or Sundays?

Hi all,
have a 9yr daughter and she's beginner as well.
Looking for a team for her to join around the same area.
However, we have a conflicting schedule for Saturday mornings until 1pm. So we are looking for a team that plays matches either Saturday afternoons or Sundays anytime of the day.
All teams I have asked so far do their matches on Saturday mornings.
Anyone know if there's a suitable team that plays Saturday afternoons or Sundays?

Go with the closest one to home

We have had several kids play in the Vienna Youth Soccer (VYS) "house" (rec) league over the years and really enjoyed it. They play in the fall and in the spring (they are evening running an outdoor winter soccer league for kids/parents who don't mind the cold weather, but count us out!).

Fairfax County is large, so depending on where you are, VYS might be a convenient option for you. It's very similar to BRYC (where we've also had some of our kids play some years, and we like them as well). We've had friends play with FPYC but don't have any experience with them ourselves.

Really, for a novice introduction to soccer, I would reach out to the nearby clubs and find out what field(s) the practices will be at for house/rec for your child's age group, and where the games are played. House teams usually practice 1x per week and have 1 game each weekend.

Sign-ups for the spring season usually start in January.

FYI my 8 year old daughter was interested in learning soccer and so we signed her up for a local rec league. Might have been the luck of the draw but we had parent coach volunteers that didn't really help the girls learn anything. Since then we've signed her up for a winter program with paid coaches. In terms of development, the first hour of the class with the paid coach was better than the 8-10 weeks of the rec league. Something to think about.

For novice closest is usually the best way to choose. Other clubs nearby include Burke, Braddock Road, Chantilly, Vienna among others depending on which side of Fairfax.

Amanda from the Golden Boot Soccer office here. We have an indoor winter skills class for 7-8 year olds that’s a stone’s throw from GMU. The program has already started, but we can talk about incorporating your daughter now, or having her start in the second session that begins in early Feb. Alternatively, we have an outdoor program near Inova Fairfax that begins Jan. 9. (That one only runs when temps are above freezing. If we need to cancel, we add a makeup to the end of the schedule.)

Either would be a great way to learn skills and techniques that would be useful for a spring team.

There’s also Burke Athletic, which plays at Patriot Park.

BRYC Rec soccer would probably be a good fit.

My 8yr old daughter (3rd grade) wants to begin learning soccer. Any good suggestions in NoVA, preferably around GMU?
