agree with poster senior in top 3 private. I now look back and say what a waste of money.

Recent Big 3 parent. At least 70% of the parents expected a bump for sending their kid to the name brand private. Of course they expect their children to be highly educated and prepared. And then to get a bump.

this sounds like buyer's remorse. OP are you finding yourself shut out of top colleges for admission? If so, you have to set that aside for your own mental health.

private school is not a ticket to anything.

Translation: my kid isn't doing that well and I need to sleep at night.

I'm sorry that you feel like you wasted your money. I know how hard it can be to get caught up in what people are saying is "best" for your children. And, I don't disagree with your point that it is not worth the money if the end goal is admission to a particular set of colleges/universities.

However, I don't think the end is near for private schools, because as you can already see, there are other reasons that families send their kids to private school and those reasons will continue, even in the absence of a benefit in college admissions.

I assumed most people were either sending their kids to private schools for the small class size and bad local schools, or because it's just what is done in their social circle.

You can get the same/better education in public. Go waste money somewhere else.

Umm, most people aren't doing it for admission to Ivy colleges/universities. They are doing it because they 1). believe it's a better option than their local public and can afford it; 2). it's tradition; 3) they like the crowd. Sorry you were hoodwinked.

Im sounding the alarm. The end is near.

For any one of you paying full tuition at a Private School for college admissions purposes (hoping you'll get into a better college), you are 100% wasting your money. I have several children in Big 3's and unless you are URM, QuestBridge, Athlete or Legacy - you are completely wasting your money. No one cares that your school is tough. That a 3.7 is really great. No one cares about ACT/SATs anymore.

You are wasting your money. 100%

The college admissions process is now washed of achievement. And there is backlash against wealth and privilege.

Dont do it. Dont waste your time. And your money. And stop perpetuating the dummying down of our system.

I wish someone would have told me 3 years ago before I enrolled my kids. Total waste of money.
