Same in good preschools in our area too! I was expecting three hours. DC is home with a truly great nanny and socializing more with kids his own age outdoors. We applied to three highly recommended preschools and they’re all four to five hours a day. Two are part of great private elementary schools and the other is just an amazing new preschool with their own creek!

DC has never been away form nanny, DH or me. I wish they had shorter days for little ones.

Our kid goes to full day preschool plus aftercare and is totally fine. Started at 3.5. All of dc who use public prek do this.

In Virginia, kids who are enrolled up to five hours don't have to nap. More than 5 hours and nap is mandatory. Our preschool has 3 and 5 hour programs with no nap and a 7 hour program with nap for 3 and 4 year olds.

OP here. Neither of the schools we’re looking at has extended care but the administration said a few parents pick their kids up early mostly because their kids are solid nappers (2 hours plus) and the allotted time for naps is just 45 to an hour. And the kids miss yoga and the good-bye ritual.

Feels so long!

I thought it would be too long for mine too but he would beg to stay when I picked him up and the other kids got to stay for extended care. Now he stays too and everyone is happy. Not sure # 2 will be like this tho. Every child is different.

Yes if the child still naps but mine doesn’t. The non-nappers do a short rest and then are read to.

In our area, (not DC) all the highly recommended preschools are four and a half to five hours a day (9 to 2). This is for three-year-olds. That seems like a long day to me for little kids who have never been in school before! Is this common?
