Seems like a two person race between McDuffie and Schwalb, based on donor numbers.

With Fair Election matches:

McDuffie: 881,329.00
Schwalb: 639,630.00
Spiva: 183,351 (100,000 is a self-loan)
Jone: 44,396

Interesting, McDuffie started raising money 6 weeks before Schwalb announced, yet it is fairly close, given the holidays and lead time.

Brian Schawlb announced his campaign has reached the matching thresholds for the Fair Election program over the holidays.

I know McDuffie's campaign reached that as well. Have the other two campaigns that have been at it longer done the same?

I'm supporting Brian Schwalb. I like Kenyan McDuffie as a mayoral candidate, but I love the idea of an AG who's committed to that job and who does not have political debts to pay/re-pay. Plus Brian is an affordable housing advocate, and the next AG is likely to have affordable housing in his civil rights portfolio due to transfer of some AG duties to the Office of Zoning. Those of us who live in NW DC know we've got to do more on affordable housing.

I know Brian Schwalb well and he'd be terrific in this role. Super smart, with integrity, and has big-law, Justice Dept, and management experience. Interestingly, he's using the city's public financing program to fundraise - not taking large corporate donations. Both Racine and Irv Nelson (the last appointed AG in DC) endorsed him immediately. Fortunate for DC Schwalb is throwing his hat in the ring.

I am looking at the actual experience of the 4 candidates. Two of them are lightweights compared to the other two.

Most people who've practiced law at a big firm have never managed anything and yet they become AGs all the time.

He has like 5 years as a practicing attorney and other than being a councilmember, has no management experience. I don't think managing a council staff is the same rigor and oversight as is needed for Attorney General. Look at Racine's experience. That is what we should be looking for, IMO.

Kenyan sees the AG position as a launching for a future mayoral bid. We need an actual AG and a former councilmember who hasn't ever really practiced the kind of law needed for this job is a really bad idea.

I was planning to support Kenyan. I like him a lot and think that he understands the politics in DC. I used to serve on a board with Bruce and he's a really nice guy. I think he'd have a hard time adjusting to DC politics. Don't know Ryan or Brian but they seem like they have good backgrounds.
