On the counter. We put it away if we're entertaining. I love it, it heats things up far better than the microwave and uses less energy and is faster than the oven. No need for a separate appliance that only does toast since this toasts bread too.

I've had one for 12 years and always kept it on the counter under the upper cabinets. Never thought twice about it and never had any issues.

Same. Also usually keep a bamboo cutting board on top because the surface gets so hot. (Breville sells them too). no issues.
And FIL is a fire fighter, so we're kind of insane careful.

We have a heavily used breville, probably used more than the stove.

It was under cabinets for 7 years, no issues. I think we did have something catch fire inside once, but it just burned itself out in oven.

Never heard of anyone’s toaster oven catching fire. Which brand was it?

On countertop under cabinets. It's 16 years old, no issue. We use it daily.

I've owned toaster ovens since I bought my first house almost 30 years ago. Always had them on a counter, usually in a corner where it is easier to keep 6 inches around the toaster oven from the wall. Never had a problem.

A couple of tips. Keep 6 inches between oven and wall so that heat can dissipate and circulate easier. Also, clean the crumb tray and rack regularly. Most toaster oven fires start because people do not clean the rack and crumb tray and food or fat drips off onto one of those and then catches fire. If you keep it clean, the toaster oven is safe.

Ours is on the countertop. We don’t have a separate toaster.

I'd definitely NOT put it underneath flameable materials. Remember heat goes up.

we have the breville toaster oven and it requires 4" on sides and 6" on top for clearance. so it doesn't sit all the way against the wall but it's not teetering on the edge either. read your manual.
