I have friends in Greensburg and visit every other year or so. Some restaurants we've liked are Giannilli's (Italian) and Don Patron (Mexican). Idlewild is a fun for families old-timey amusement park/water park.

Latrobe is tiny but Greensburg isn’t that small.

Your kid may also want to check out Juniata. Small, outdoorsy down to earth place. Strong for sciences in particular. Not Catholic though.

I live in Pittsburgh. My dr’s kids went there and graduated within the last few years. They both got jobs at very well known companies out of state. I don’t know too much about the school and my kids didn’t consider it bc we aren’t Catholic. I was really impressed with their jobs and do not know if it is typical. In any event, I would visit if you haven’t already to make sure your ds likes the campus/area.

Thank you, pp. Do you know if a lot of kids happen to be outdoorsy, given the proximity to hiking, skiing, etc?

His stats are in the high range for the school, he wants Catholic, small, rural(ish), near outdoorsy things/kids who are outdoorsy, and “not snobby” (his words). He also would like a place less than 4-5 hours away from the DMV. He doesn’t know what he wants to major in yet.

It looks good on paper but we will have to go see it and get the vibe. Also, when he was in the area before skiing with his friends and their family he has such a good time—he needs to see it again in case all the fun of that trip is making him too optimistic about what it is like.

I looked up Greensberg and Latrobe and there doesn’t seem to be a lot going on for those times he is tired of being on campus on in the semi-rural area. He might be romantizing it a bit.

It is pretty, semi-rural, and the students are down-to-Earth. Greensburg/Latrobe is nearby and has a mall and the chain restaurants. Draws a regional (Western PA) crowd and is very Catholic. Home of the Steelers training camp. Not far from Seven Springs. Decent liberal arts school but I can’t point to any particular program that differentiates it (which is not to say there isn’t one).

Any personal experiences, or know anyone who has gone? Ticks boxes on paper for DS, but I’ve never heard of it and wondering what it is really like.
Never been to that area of PA, though DS went skiing with friends not far from there and thought the area seemed pretty/rural/people down to earth.
