Damn, OP - How is this even a question? I have a gay child. There is no way in hell I would subject him to that kind of intolerance and hatred. Our church is 100% supportive of the LGTBQ community.

I think more people don't leave the church and try to hide the fact that their DC is gay.

Leaving a church means leaving more than the church - it means leaving a social network and support system. It's not like walking down the street and joining another church is going to bring that back.

Family friends, devout evangelical, whose son came out. It was rough as their whole life was their church, friends faith, etc., who were incensed, going to hell, the whole nine yards. Plus, son no longer lived in same town and they weren't that close. But family chose their son over their church and the life they had built around it. Their relationship with their son is better now than ever before, and he has since married (in their family home) and has a child, who his parents are very close to. Their story gives me faith.

Do you actually believe in your religion? If so church wins. Do you think your religion is wrong? Then you are a hypocrite for going in the first place, but now that it's your kid being shunned instead of Betty Sue's you can leave.
