My DD is a 9th grader at Minnie Howard who “graduated” from Hammond last year. Both my children were there 6-8. The teachers were really hit or miss. Some were there for the paycheck while other genuinely cared. Over our time we had a couple bomb threats but that doesn’t seem out of order with the recent activities at her new school. She was in the TAG program and honors classes. TAG was a major fail and was essentially just giving her another project for each subject with no support. The kids in her honors classes weren’t always as dedicated as she was. The academic highlight was the accelerated math program and she raved about her German teacher. The principal rarely communicated with students but she did make appearances at PTA meetings.

How easy or difficult is it for kids to find friends and avoid the exposure you are mentioning? Are TAG classes different, but PE still an issue, etc?

TAG classes (which apparently are called “honors” classes) bring slightly less exposure, but still a disappointing amount. Then there’s PE/electives as you mentioned, plus bus, lunch, general hallway hijinks.
