3.6 from a private school is very competitive for Wash U. At our Big 3, the average admitted GPA was 3.5.

DS got a ton from them and U of Chicago. He knew it was $ grab for the app fee and he was unlikely to get in.

Wash U has been famous for a long time for spamming HS students. It's understood that it's not legitimate outreach, but simply an effort to reduce its admissions rate. No need to indulge this second-tier school.

Proof that all that mail actually works. While we don't know exactly what's on your kid's transcript, a 3.6 doesn't point to there being the kind of rigor and grades that get one into a school as competitive as Wash U.

Amazing that being bombarded with mail overrides objective data that says the application probably won't be successful.

WashU has a 16% acceptance rate.
86% were in the top decile of their class
67% had a 4.0 GPA
Average HS GPA: 4.21

That all depends on the school, courseload, etc.

They want your kid to apply so they can turn him down. This is all about selectivity numbers and marketing.

OP, is your DC a junior? if not, then seems like EDII is only option.

DC is a senior and has a few older friends at Wash U - her take: Wash U prefers stronger grades over course rigor so is popular at her school for kids who are outstanding in humanities/languages, but an A-/A student in regular math/science classes.

What do you think? Those stats are good but unremarkable relative to admitted students profile. Why would you succumb to direct marketing?
