You can get a smaller dog that's a different breed. If you had a Westie, this time get a cockapoo. You see?

Small dogs come in a variety of sizes and colors.

We had a boxer who we had to put down in May of 2020 and my 24 year old daughter is like your husband and said she wouldn't want us getting another boxer because it will remind her of Bonnie. As of now we're not getting another dog but may consider it a few years from now and we will consider her feelings but hope if we go looking at boxer puppies she will reconsider it since me and dh love the breed. If not we also will consider getting a pitbull if she won't come around to our side.

Are you looking at rescues or breeders? If rescues, it's always a mixed bag of breeds, sizes, colors at any adoption fair I've been to. If breeders, that's certainly different and you can pick and choose.

I felt like your DH after our last 12lb dog died, and we ended up with a larger dog (I wanted something in-between the sizes) just because of the way things worked out. We also didn't want the same colors. (we were getting another poodle mix - I have asthma and massive dog allergies to certain breeds).

Also, all small dogs don't look the same. You have lots of options....

Our dog passed away three years ago. We still have photos and things around the house of hers. Originally, it was my husband's dog and he got her when she was eight weeks old. She died at 13 years old. We finally started talking about potentially getting another dog months ago. Talks recently increased and we're looking at spring time, but my husband does not want a similar dog to the one we had - 15lb, black/white, etc. He wants a different type so it doesn't remind him of our old dog.

I can understand this sort of, because whenever we are out with our kids and they see a small dog that's similar to our old dog they always saw "Awe, it reminds me of X". I get it. But, I wanted another smaller dog. My husband doesn't. Hmm...
