But then you have to deal with their weird gummy texture.

+1. Cold Stone is *not* premium ice cream. Look at the ingredient list, stuff is garbage.

Agree with natural versions of Turkey Hill. It tastes like regular Breyers used to 20 years ago.

I eat the “simpler” version of Kemps (a Midwestern brand) because it’s less sweet. It’s certainly not unsweet, but it’s less sweet.

Anything with higher fat will be less sweet, so none of those “ice cream dessert” things or low fat. Haagen Dazs is probably your best bet, or some local artisanal kind.

Ah yes, I don't like overly sweet or salty things. I just check the ingredients list. It's not perfect, because sometimes foods that are added will make the dish seem more or less sweet (or salty) than the salt or sugar content indicates. But it's the only system that has worked for me - that, and cooking my own food (but I don't like ice cream enough to make my own!).

Vanilla will usually be really sweet. Look for a dark chocolate ice cream. Or add a bunch of fresh fruit and mash it into the vanilla ice cream.

Gelato usually has less sugar than ice cream.

I bought a tub of Edy's vanilla ice cream today and it is so so sweet! I remember last time I bought Ben and Jerry's I had the same problem. For people who like much less sweet desserts, can you recommend an ice cream brand and flavor?
