Both of my kids were like this. One still sometimes needs reminders even at 4.5 when he is playing something he really likes. I can see him squirming but he'll insist he doesn't need to go. They don't want to stop what they're doing to go to the bathroom. Honestly I think I even remember having an accident or two at K (I started at 4, back in the day when the cutoff was later) because I put it off as long as I could until I couldn't hold it anymore. It's frustrating because they are the only ones who can feel the urge to go and they have to want to get to the bathroom in time. I think if nothing else it eventually works itself out when they become more socially aware and don't want others to see they have had an accident.

My kid didn’t start reliably self-initiating the potty until 3.5. Some kids just need reminders and to go on a schedule. It’s good that she can stay dry as long as you give reminders.

Some kids don't get the feeling and can express it. Keep taking her regularly.

Some kids are lazy and have to be reminded/told.

Give good rewards for successful self-initiated potty trips. Use the phrase “can you go” vs “ do you have to go”.

I don’t know but my child is the same age and does the same things. It’s frustrating but I assume it’ll work itself out. I’ve read so much on potty training snd there doesn’t seem to be a solution that works for each kid.

How long ago did she potty train?

My recently turned 3 year old child potty trained in a few days; she poops and pees in the toilet and wears only underwear except at night. The problem is that she just won’t tell me when she needs to go. As long as I stick her on the toilet every hour she’s fine. But she pees in her pants if I don’t and tells me afterwards that she “needs to go”. She’s obviously uncomfortable in wet clothes. What do I do? Her two older siblings trained at the same age and had few to no accidents.
