Thanks for asking this, OP, because I'm on a similar quest for my 21yo nephew who lives in the snowy Midwest. I was wondering about Orvis, since I really like their quality, but was wondering if it reads as too old. Happy to hear it suggested; I might head over to their Bethesda store later today.

I would say yes. It isn't "in" or out...it is a practical brand for gear and outerwear

Vineyard vines is sold at TJ max. It’s form LMC and MC kids who want to cosplay at preppy

My son is in college, and guys his age actually wear Eddie Bauer jackets. They are good quality (he goes to a school in Midwest), and if someone accidentally leaves the bar wearing your jacket, it's not a huge loss.

I can't see a younger guy in LLBean or Eddie Bauer. Those are old men and dad clothes. I think try REI instead, and brands like Patagonia.

Also, stores like REI, Sierra Trading, and Backcountry carry many brands, so if you want to go the gift card route, one of those might be nice.

My 21 year old son has asked for clothing for Christmas. He's kind of a jeans, t shirt, and hoodie type and has mostly worn sutf from American Eagle, but he'd like to start dressing a little nicer. Still not very formal (he's still in school) but just...nicer. He's also a bit of an "outdoorsy" type--he likes to hike and go to national parks, and was an Eagle scout. His daily routine (weekdays) has him walking outdoors for half an hour to go to class--and it's in a cold climate, but then he goes into a building for class. So comfortable walking shoes/clothes and layers work best.
When I ask him for specific brands or stores he says he has no clue.

Do you think LL Bean and Eddie Bauer would be good? Any other suggestions? Thanks!
